In partnership with Newcastle City Council, Curated Place is offering 12 free places on their Creative Producer Training programme, joining a network operating in over 18 countries worldwide.

Newcastle City Council is launching a bold and ambitious 10-year cultural events programme that will establish the city as one of the UK’s premier cultural destinations. Anchored by a series of flagship events each year, which will include: NOVUM Summer Festival, a reinvigorated Christmas and New Year offer, and a brand new Winter Festival, the programme will also support a vibrant calendar of city-wide events throughout the year. The events programme will not only attract visitors and elevate Newcastle’s national and international profile but also create meaningful opportunities for local skills development, community participation, and cultural co-creation, celebrating the city’s identity through a rich blend of homegrown and global talent.

The Creative Producer Programme (CPP) is a free 10-module professional development programme delivered by Curated Place in partnership with Newcastle City Council and funded by Arts Council England and North East Combined Authority.

Designed specifically for local creative and community-based producers practicing in Newcastle and the North East, the programme supports individuals to develop the practical skills, tools, and networks needed to deliver ambitious creative projects rooted in place. This opportunity is part of a long-term investment in cultural leadership that will empower new and existing voices to shape Newcastle’s creative future, enable co-creation within the supportive environment of large-scale public events, and build sustainable careers in the arts and culture sectors.

Please note the short turnaround time from application/acceptance to essential attendance at training and NOVUM 2026.

The Creative Producer Programme (CPP) is a free 10-session professional development programme designed to support creative producers from across Newcastle and the North East, within the NECA footprint. Delivered by Curated Place in partnership with Newcastle City Council and funded by Arts Council England and NECA, the programme is part of a city-wide effort to build long-term cultural leadership, empower new voices, and develop a more inclusive and ambitious creative economy in the North East.

  • Creative project management

  • Budgeting and fundraising

  • Stakeholder engagement

  • Risk Management

  • Production planning

  • Environmental responsibility

Participants completing the course will then be invited to join our international cultural network connecting producers in 18 countries. As part of your application to the Creative Producer Training Programme, you’ll propose a project idea that reflects your interests and responds to the festival’s co-creation ethos, placing Newcastle’s communities at the heart of the work.

Your idea doesn’t need to be final, but it should show how you might collaborate with residents to design and deliver a public-facing creative project that amplifies local voices and contributes meaningfully to the festival.

The budget available for delivery of the project is c. £15,000 to cover fees and materials for the creation of the work and delivery of the project.  Technical support through the NOVUM Festival delivery team will be available to support the development of ideas.

  • Creative Producers are people who bring cultural projects to life by combining creative ambition with practical delivery.

They work across the arts and culture sectors, connecting artistic ideas with planning, coordination, and leadership. These producers are essential to creating work that is relevant, inclusive, and rooted locally.

We encourage applications from emerging producers, artists who currently self-produce, creative practitioners, community leaders, and/or organisers who currently deliver creative projects and activities for their communities, venue-based producers, and those who work in the cultural sector who would benefit from the training. local and community-rooted Creative Producers across Candidates can work across all art forms, including installation, performance, theatre, music, and multi-artform festivals and events.

Candidates must be based in Newcastle or the wider North East across the NECA footprint. This programme is for Creative Producers who are passionate about developing and delivering creative cultural experiences from festivals and performances to workshops, exhibitions, or public events. We want to develop the skills, confidence, and networks to take their ideas further.

This programme is focused on supporting people, not just projects. We ask applicants to share a project idea as part of their application process. This helps us to understand your creative practice, your connection to the community, and how the programme can support your development. Your idea does not need to be final or fully formed, as many participants' ideas change during the programme.

This programme is about building a career, not just projects. It is designed to support your development as a creative leader, enabling you to take ideas from concept to reality while working collaboratively with partners, artists, and communities.
